Community Meeting
October 30th, 2009

Agenda:
Guest Speaker: Jen from GLBT rights organization (AskCleveland)
o Campaign for Domestic Partnership Registry
o Stopping discrimination against people who are transgender
o Definition of Transgender:
 Someone whose sex they are born with does not match how they identify themselves (internally)
o Cleveland is the only city left in Ohio which does not have a law against this transgender discrimination
o City Council will vote before Thanksgiving
o Would like 11 people of 21 council members to vote for this bill
o Why vote against?
 People are afraid about not getting re-elected
o Tuesday, November 3rd is voting day
o Would like 120 people working on election day
o Training Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 31 and Nov. 1st)
o Volunteer shifts for voting day are:
 6:30-9:30am
 4:30-7:30pm
o Can speak to Jen after community meeting

Schedule: Chris
o Schedule should be uploaded to your icals
o Classes are locked into consistent meeting times and meeting lengths
o There are CAS openings
o Monday--advisors will work with you
o If you have questions, email Chris
o All sophomores, touch base with Chris (asap)

9/10 Student Meeting
o Monday, November 3rd, we will have an all 9/10 meeting at 9am in 1-W
o Third floor will be used for OGTs all next week

Open House: James
o This Tuesday, November 3rd at 7pm is our Open House
o Perhaps SAT class time can be switched
o Thank you Ambassadors!
Holiday Craft Fair
o Sunday, December 6th, we have another Open House
 Tied into the Holiday CircleFest, 1-5:30
 If you want to help, contact James
 You can bake, sell things, craft fair (if you have things to sell)--you can do it!

o On Tuesday, 4pm

Basketball Update
o Haven’t heard anything from them

Collecting X-Term Papers: Elizabeth
o If you do not have your papers at the meeting, please turn them into Regina’s mailbox
o If you are a boarder--an email from your parents to Regina is sufficient

Lunch Review: Arnold
o We will not have chicken everyday
o The chefs were very receptive
o More variety--perhaps some fresh fruit
o If you do not order lunch, please do not sneak things from the table

Environmental Club: Kelly
o Movie Showing--Nov. 5th (4pm-6pm)
o Bring $$ to have something to eat
o New permission slips--if under 18, need a parent permission slip (rated R)
o If you had a permission slip already signed, you don’t need a new one
-General movie form will be discussed by School Council on Tuesday

Talent Show: Solomon
o Wednesday, November 18th
o After school
o Sign up will be on the bulletin board outside the office
o Please sign up by Friday, November

Zombie Play: Katrina/Betty
o Katrina is in the Land of the Dead Play
o $10 at the Cleveland Play House
o Email Katrina if you’d like to go

NaNoWriMo: Katrina
o National Novel Writing Movement
o 50,000 by Nov. 30th
o Starts on November 1st
o Google search it

Current Events Club: Emma
o Lunch meeting on Thursday, November 5th

Plastic Bags for Martina
o Please bring in bags

Africa Trip:Paula
o Spring ex-term to Uganda
o Marangnatha orphanage and school
o Work with the children, experience the culture
o Paula will send out an email assessing interest
o Ex-term fund (small portion) will go toward it, there will be fundraising, then parents will be asked to make up the difference
o May 30-June 12

Halloween Party!
o Kickin’ party. Please give money to Bonnie in the office today -or- talk to Paula about paying at the door
o Preview: oatmeal cream pies (yum!)

o Thanks to all the advisors! Conferences went well.
o Kudos to all the artists.
o Alissa deserves a lot of recognition--she works really hard and has scheduled extra classes
 She really does a great job
o Spanish class, group two, was awesome!
o SOA had a bake sale fundraiser--very successful. Thank you to all the volunteers and all those who purchased the goods.
